Richmond MORE Meeting Minutes - January

-          New Meeting Location, REI Short Pump. 2020 Old Brick Rd, Glen Allen, VA

 

Treasurer’s Report

-          Most of the money in 2009 went to the website development and trail work

-          Currently we have 107 “active” members (dues are paid).

-          Ended 2009 with $12,663 in bank account

 

Trail Advocacy

-          Westview in Goochland site of possible trails.  600-700 acres.

-          Meeting with the Board of Directors for Westview on Jan. 30th

-          Work continues on moving forward with trail work in Henrico.  Dorey Park and Deep Run Park.

-          Buttermilk West is still private land.  Possible recreational easement with the City of Richmond.  RA-MORE to possibly insure the land and/or the trail tread.  Josh Rogers (one of the landowners of Buttermilk West property) replaced the bridge that was removed by the city.  Bought the land about 18 months ago.  Pro-trail access.

 

Trail Work

-          Finished project above Maymont ramp.  Lots of rock armoring.

-          Forest Hill Park, 50-60 people came out the first day of trail work in FHP.  15 people came out on 2nd day.

-          Introduction of Bill Blythe, Sweco operator.

-          Discussion about machine cut trail and the benefits.

-          Feb. 27th, Tree Re-planting in FHP.  1,500 saplings donated by U.S. Forest Service.  Chesapeake Bay Foundation is assisting.  Friends of Forest Hill Park donated $300 for some other native plants.

-          Railings to be added on cement pipe over Reedy Creek.

-          There is trail work opportunities during the week if anyone is available and interested.  Just contact Nathan Burrell.

-          After the reroutes, FHP will be 3 miles of uninterrupted single track.  Currently it is about 3.5 miles of trail, but that includes some fire roads, paved roads, and parking lots.

-          The reroutes include sustainable design and improved sight lines.

-          Dogwood Dell has 2-3 miles of trail.  Possibly start on trail construction and reroutes in DD this fall (2010-2011 winter season).
